Mentoring for Resiliency: Setting Up Programs for Moving Youth from "Stressed to Success"
Published in Paperback by Resiliency In Action (April, 2000)
Authors: Nan Henderson, Bonnie Benard, Nancy Sharp-Light, and Emmy E Werner
Average review score:

A Powerful Start for Mentoring Youth
No other book provides the passion and power for establishing mentoring connections for youth as this book. While not exactly a how-to-do-it book, it provides enough details about the "why" of mentoring and disinguishes clearly between mentoring that has value for youth versus other types of well-meaning approaches. Chapters are included by the most well-known leaders in the youth mentoring field, including Marc Freedman and Bonnie Benard, that are not only informative and inspiring, but can can easily yield guidance for anyone associated with mentoring youth. All the authors agree that the power of mentoring is not in the "program," but in the relationship.

Henderson's text is penetrating analysis of the global corporate social responsibility (CSR) push. With alarming ease Henderson questions some of the very basic tenets of CSR.

Mr. Angel (Silhouette Special Edition, No 1002)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (December, 1995)
Author: Beth Henderson
Average review score:

Cute
Kevin is a minister who is at a crossroads in his life. Then his car breaks down and he ends up knocking on the door of Rella's house. The telephone's down and Rella is in labor (her truck driver, slightly neglectful husband has died). Rella's daughter and son are looking for an angel to help her, and Kevin gets recruited. Being stranded at their house, Kevin falls in love with Rella and her three children while he's still trying to find his way in life. While not very memorable, it is a very cute, sweet story, worthy of taking a break from everyday life and enjoying.

The Mystery of the Mixed Up Mail (The New Bobbsey Twins, No. 30)
Published in Paperback by Minstrel Books (June, 1992)
Authors: Laura Lee Hope, David F. Henderson, Pat MacDonald, and David E. Henderson
Average review score:

good book
In the last book in the New Bobbsey Twins series, it's spring break and Freddie and Flossie are bored. When they discover Mr. McAlphin's tickets to an old timer's baseball game have been stolen, they spring into action. Freddie and Flossie's list of suspects is a mile long and includes the new mail carrier, Mrs. Rodriguez, who is acting strangely. Their path to discover the thief includes several hilarious hijinks, including Freddie almost getting shipped to Europe. This book is very good and I recommend it.

Average review score:

Virginia Henderson /The Nature of Nursing
It is a simple, easy to understand and touching. Her concept that nursing should pay our attention to our clients at home and community because 'hospital is only the temporary home for the citizen". She expressed this idia very long time before the Health Care Reform started. I think all young generation nursing students should read this book before entering a nursing program.

New Book of Saddlery & Tack
Published in Hardcover by Sterling Publications (May, 1902)
Author: Caorlyn Henderson
Average review score:

A thorough and excellent review of tack and saddlery...
I bought this book for my husband at Christmas, and we've both fallen in love with it. He looks at it so often it just sits on the floor by his chair now, never making it back to the bookcase. It contains over 250 pages of excellent information for the rider, English or Western, as well as historical information about the origins of tack and saddles.

The book starts out with a history of tack, up through the making of the modern saddle; covers specialty saddles; has an extensive section on bits, bridles and additional aids; covers driving and farm harnesses; various training aids, outlines a well-equipped stable; illustrates various cerimonial trappings, and shows us samples of riding dress.

There are thousands of marvelous photographs, both black & white as well as color; pages of line drawing illustrations; charts; diagrams; the works! It's not an inexpensive book, but for the serious rider it's well worth the investment. If you are such, don't hesitate, go for it!

A New Generation of Evidence: The Family Is Critical to Student Achievement
Published in Paperback by Center for Law & Education (June, 1994)
Authors: Anne T. Henderson, Nancy Berla, and National Committee for Citizens in Education
Average review score:

Readable, compelling overview of family involvement studies
This book as a great tool for every child and education advocate! The style makes it easy to access key information on how to make school a success for all our children. Great gift for every school board trustee, Superintendent, Administrator or other policy maker!

Henderson and Berla make the studies accessible to all, and along the way provide solid evidence that...
- quality parent/family involvement is needed for kids to succeed;
- the highest gains come from more substantial involvement; and
- that administrators' and officials' attitudes and policies make a big difference in how well these programs work.

The introduction provides an easy-access overview. Pull quotes in the study section highlight key findings. Full reference info is given for each study so the reader can find the original study if desired. All in all, a great work!
